The Construction Fund: Rights and Services for Workers and Companies

Do you work in construction or manage a building company?
Then you know well how particular this sector is: changing sites, discontinuous projects, variable hours. The Construction Fund is the body created specifically to protect the rights of those operating in this dynamic world.

What It Is and Why It Exists

The Construction Fund is a private bilateral body that protects the rights of workers in the building and construction sector, regulating relations between employees and employers.
The construction sector has unique characteristics: work discontinuity, frequent mobility between sites, irregular hours and seasonality. This is why it was necessary to create a specific body that would guarantee economic stability even with fragmented employment relationships.

A Bit of History

The first Italian Construction Fund was established in Milan in 1919, from collaboration between companies and workers. After two years it obtained legislative recognition. Today there are 120 Construction Funds across Italy, one per province.

How It Works and What It Guarantees

Construction Funds are financed by contributions paid by companies and workers, equal to approximately 12% of gross monthly wages. Registration is compulsory for all construction companies and their employees.

The Construction Fund offers much more than simple economic protection. It guarantees paid holidays, thirteenth and fourteenth month payments, bad weather allowances and annual rest periods. It provides supplementary healthcare assistance for workers and their families, support in case of accidents and supplementary pensions.

Furthermore, it provides contributions for work clothing, scholarships for members' children and professional training. For companies, it issues certification of contribution regularity necessary to participate in public tenders.

Why It's Important

For workers, the Construction Fund guarantees income continuity even when changing employer, protection during crisis periods and healthcare assistance. For companies, it ensures certified contribution regularity and administrative simplification.

With over 1.5 million registered workers and more than 100 years of experience, the Construction Fund represents a fundamental pillar of the Italian construction system.

Workers can request their contribution statement from their provincial Construction Fund. Companies must ensure they are regularly registered and keep their DURC (Single Document of Contribution Regularity) up to date.
